Residential Design

Our homes are our refuges & our sanctuaries. Isn’t it about time to invest in the environment you spend so much time?

A design that is comfortable, functional, & beautiful creates an inspiring backdrop for you & your family to live your best life.

A well-designed environment is the epitome of self care.

San Francisco living

In San Francisco, like a lot of big cities, square footage is a premium, so how you use it is absolutely key. For this cozy, highly organized and stylish residence in the heart of the city, the design aesthetic is an eclectic blend of natural materials, textures & colors against a neutral backdrop, evoking a relaxed bohemian vibe. In an environment with limited space, selecting fewer but quality pieces like a timeless Saarinen side table give the home an uncluttered, approachable feeling. The framed artwork in the living area, handmade ink sketches of the Duoro river in Porto, is from a trip to Portugal and done by a former architect turned artist.

The bathroom is a wonderful opportunity for design personality and the bold use of a saturated paint color. The vibrant aquamarine hue coordinates with the embroidered panel edge of the cream draperies, hung floor to ceiling to express the ceiling’s height. A contrasting accent color like the gold, textured towels juxtapose an Iranian rug in shades of merlot and fuchsia. These shades are repeated in other areas such as the handwoven lumbar pillow, which works against the white linen bedding just as effortlessly as with the tufted silver sofa in the living area. Accents like a grouping of wooden Kokeshi dolls, a live edge wood slab side table, felt wall tiles, and colorful pillows from Mexico City all add interest, making even the smallest space something unique and special.

A modern farmhouse aesthetic in Marin

Casual, textural + elevated

When Jen & Carl bought their light-filled, 2-story house in the heart of Novato, they knew that combining their styles, kids & pets would be a bit of a challenge. They reached out to Jamie Ray Design Studio to create an environment that was warm, comfortable, & casual with natural colorations and livable, yet elevated finishes.

While the living room had a great stone hearth and wood burning fireplace, the space still needed warmth & soul. Jamie selected a tonal & neutral palette with punctuations of black accents such as the ebony wood coffee table, farmhouse bench & sculptural shelving. A few of the room’s special features are a pair of Eames leather lounge chairs, an original oil painting from a local artist in Inverness, a velvety soft, handwoven rug made from recycled bottles, and an antique brass stamp box…….
